ONE of Ireland's finest group of balladeers, The Kilkennys (aka Uisce Beatha) are set to embark on a Summer Tour of Ireland to promote their current live album and DVD – Meet The Kilkennys.
The group are no strangers to the Irish music scene as they have been performing the length and breadth of the country under the name Uisce Beatha for over 10 years. Their Summer Tour, titled 'The Spirit of Ireland' will mark their 10th Anniversary as a working band.
The Kilkennys have gained a reputation as one of Ireland's finest young ballad groups and have often been compared to acts like The Fureys, The Dubliners, The Clancys and The Wolfe Tones. David, Tommy, Adam and Robbie have proved that they have grown into a band of professional musicians with the ability to win over audiences with their youthful approach to Irish music.
The year 2008 saw the band gradually move into a more professional and ballad orientated style, bringing real Irish music to a new level that not only displays their youth and enthusiasm for music, but also their high level of musicianship and vocal abilities.
Bringing the band into a new era, Uisce Beatha decided to rename themselves The Kilkennys in a bid to take their music to the next level while also promoting their beloved Marble City wherever they go. And they have done just that.
Las Vegas, Boston, Chicago, Germany, Holland and The Czech Republic are just some of the destinations The Kilkennys have conquered, alongside their home city to the Aran Islands and everywhere in between.
They have successfully re-introduced Irish folk and ballads to a young audience while also winning the hearts of the more seasoned traditional music lovers. Now they have hit the international stage and they have taken Irish music to a worldwide audience.
Over 4,000 Czechs attempting to chant along to Irish ballads and chancing their luck at Irish dancing to the sound of The Kilkennys at the recent Irish Cultural Festival in Ostrava says it all. Their Germany shows are bigger and Las Vegas even bigger again. Every year the lads from the Marble City perform to thousands of fans all over the world and now, with the new name and change of musical direction, The Kilkennys are fast becoming a household name.
Their youth and energy really shines through on their current album and their vocal abilities and fantastic harmonies help to take traditional Irish music to an unprecedented level. It's no wonder that Dolphin Discs, a record label long associated with fine Irish artists, snapped them up and got their album on the shelves.
They have a product that has the capability of taking the international market by storm. It's just a matter of time before The Kilkennys explode into the commercial world so catch them at a venue near you soon while you can.
The album is a must have for any lover of Irish music and those who have lost faith in the traditional songs of Ireland should really give this album a listen. You will be pleasantly inspired.
Forget about the rebel tunes and Paddywhackery often associated with Irish music, this album contains true quality musicianship and is something we can all be proud of. From the opening tune of Galway Girl to the finishing professional studio recordings of Go Lassie Go and Chandler Shop, this album has it all – energy, emotion, fun and history.
There is something there for everyone. And, with a youthful image and modern sound, The Kilkennys have taken some of the finest Irish songs to a much wider audience. They have shared the stage with some of the country's most prominent folk icons including Shane McGowan, Finbarr Furey and the late Ronnie Drew. Their record label Dolphin Discs boasts such Irish music legends as Mary and Frances Black, Liam Clancy, Dolores Keane, Ronnie Drew, Jack L and Sonny Knowles.
The best thing about The Kilkennys is that they reproduce their studio sound at all their shows and their performance is always full of energy and a set list sure to win crowds. That combined with featured special guest performers ensures that this Summer Tour is one not to be missed! Catch them while you can.
